We knew that the NSA is hoovering up all the communications over at Verizon, AT&T and Comcast. Now it’s come to light that they are also mass collecting user data including audio, video and private messages on the world’s biggest social networks and search engines.
This revelation came because of the heroic whistle-blowing of ex-CIA contractor Edward Snowdon who collected and collated a treasure trove of classified documents relating to the American government’s PRISM program. PRISM, it is shown, is the largest data collection and spying scheme in the history of the security state, hoovering up zetabytes of personal correspondence.
